Who Irritates You?

I plan to post here on Lifelines every Monday. Some posts may be humorous but all will be insightful. I hope you find this blog inspiring and entertaining, perhaps finding a nugget of wisdom to help you in days to come. Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves.”
Carl Gustav Jung, Swiss psychiatrist (1875-1061)

Do you agree with the quotation above? Things in others that irritate us CANNOT lead us to an understanding of ourselves UNLESS we are willing to examine our own lives. We must put those irritations alongside ourselves and thoughtfully admit if we also irritate folks in the same areas.

That would be some admission! Usually when someone bothers us with habits that aggravate us, we don’t readily see ourselves doing the same. Too many times when we compare ourselves to others, we fail to see our own shortcomings. Maybe we also irritate that person as well.

But how can we discover our shortcomings in such

cases? Maybe by applying this simple little quotation: “When you point your finger at someone, three fingers are pointing back at you.” —Anonymous.

Many relationships might become smoother if we turn the spotlight on ourselves to help discover our faults. We do have them, you know. None of us has ever been perfect except one, Jesus (Hebrews 5:9, NIV).

Are we strong enough to admit we may have weakness? That we just might irritate other people as they irritate us? That’s a possibility we need to consider.
